Don Reitz: Standing Alone
Extended to March 15th

February 14, 2009 - March 7, 2009

Don Reitz (1929 - 2014)

1929 - 2014 ďMY ART has always come out of need. Not everyone may like what I do, but I can only make what I feel in my heart. You have to have courage to put out what you know to be truth. I enjoy art that has something to say, or questions to ask. I enjoy knowing I am the sum of all that has gone before. Through art, I am able to make the intangible tangible, release my subconscious and give physical reality to emotional conditions. When I work, I am a loner. I canít have anyone in the studio. Itís a very personal and private place. I am pretending in there. But Iím never lonely, and I love involvement with people. Thatís why I do workshops.Ē - Don Reitz

Reception with the artist
February 14th 3-5 PM

Artist talk and walk through, 5-6 PM

Don Reitz is considered one of the most important and influential figures in contemporary ceramics. He has spent the last fifty years as a ceramic artist firing first with salt and then with wood. Known for his influential technological advances and innovations to the salt-glaze process, he is affectionately known as "Mr. Salt". Wood-firing for the last 20 years, he is now excited about adding color to the process. One of the last of the great abstract expressionist artists working in clay, he is a treasure. Lacoste Gallery is honored to be showing new work made expressly for this exhibition.
