“I get my inspiration from walks in the woods and beaches of coastal Maine.I am influenced by simple things --- the growth rings on a mussel shell, the underside of an osprey in flight or the stones and leaves on the bottom of a creek. In my clay work I try to suggest subtle gestures of my natural experiences.” Mark Bell’s richly colored porcelain forms, inspired by nature, express movement and tension in their classical shapes.Mark‘s pieces are wheel thrown porcelain, highly trimmed. He puts layer upon layer of glaze to achieve his rich colors. Mark lives in an area of salt-water marshes where he derives constant stimulation from the varied life forms around him.
