MARIANNE NIELSEN is interested in the cultural underlying meaning of ceramics. Her starting point is often universal phenomena in small and large scale: knits, mountains, hair and flowers. In recent years focus has been on plants and flowers; "We see nature with our human eyes which draws it into the culture. This transition from nature to culture is an important part of my thinking. In my use of nature as a motif lies an interest in its opposite, as the objects are; 'the artificial', the human- made, which is clarified in its contrast to the nature theme. It is not self-grown, but rather the result of the selections
and processing."
