Shuki: Contemporary Sake Vessels
April 25 - May 23, 2015

The concept of sake cup and bottle is very simple, yet the variety in this exhibition is vast. The premise is that guinomi are sake drinking cups that are not production ware but rather made individually. Each piece has character and stands apart from any other guinomi. As with tea bowls, guinomi are imbued with character in the specific way that the maker chooses. Shuki will showcase a number of Japanese artists, established and aspiring, as well as selected American artists who have embraced an aesthetic that crosses over from tea culture to sake culture.
