Artist Talk:

Sunday February 22

2:00 pm

Kerry Jameson's figurative ceramic sculptures become a pathway of understanding and a refuge to the artist. While in residence in 2014 at the art department at Emmanuel College, Boston, Jameson worked in direct response to the local museum collections such as the Museum Fine Arts and the Peabody Essex. For her making has a language all its own; often after pieces were fired they were intentionally broken and re-edited. The re-edited sculptures are then combined with local materials and found objects which formed a visceral figurative sculpture that speaks of past history.

Kerry Jameson is a London-based artist who has shown in New York City, West Palm Beach, Chicago, New Zealand, and Belgium. She has exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery and Marsden Woo Gallery in London and at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. This will be her first exhibition at Lacoste Gallery.

Josephine Burr & Nathan Prouty
Next Generation Ceramics

June 13 - July 4, 2015

Two emerging sculptors expand the definition of what clay can mean. Josephine Burr combines a clean, modern style with the touch of the hand—the foregrounding of material and process—that has long been the hallmark of clay. Her pieces - looped, clustered, connected and shifting - explore the fluidity of lines, rendered in a shifting spectrum of form, surface, color, and light. Burr is one of a new generation of artists taking the classical medium of ceramics and updating it to a modern sensibility. Her contemporary Nathan Prouty reworks the knick-knack and souvenir, tokens of the incessant stimulation of the modern world, into clay works of art encased in plastic domes, much like snow globes in souvenir shops. He creates vast installations of these small works, dredging up anxieties and associations of overstimulation. This two-person exhibition is devoted to the exploration of pure sculpture and ideas over form and process.
