Ephemeral Structures presents several distinct bodies of work coexisting in lively conversation. Central to the show are Burr’s airy, knot-like structures, like monochromatic line drawings in space, reminiscent of cell clusters or microscopic crystalline forms. Glazed in rich color and texture and retaining a strong touch of the hand, these sculptures capture a sense of fleeting beauty, like objects on the verge of collapse.

The work (indirectly) and their titles (directly) are based on Joni Mitchell pieces, specifically, from her 1976 album Hejira.

"Distilled from years of cultural memory in all its various forms, the modern human condition is just plain nuts. The accompanying ideas of conflict, angst, optimism, desire, frustration, longing, fury, loss, and potential-but-thwarted humanistic development are my obsessions and baggage. Through humor, one is able to linger just a bit longer in what would otherwise be dangerous territory." –Nate Prouty
